Many times you can fix this by powering down your computer, waiting a few minutes, and then turning it back on.

If that doesn't work:
1. Open device manager (control panel->system->hardware-> device manager or "devmgmt.msc" in the run box.)
2. Find and highlight your keyboard. Right click and select uninstall.
3. Shutdown your computer. And check your keyboard cable. Look for a loos or disconnected cable, bent pins in the connector, and abrasions in the cable. Also make sure your keyboard is plugged into the right place (Purple with purple and not plugged into the green one which is for a mouse although not all manufactures use coloring).
4. If no problems are found, turn your computer back on.

Removing your keyboard from device manager will force windows to re-detect and reinstall the keyboard and drivers. If windows does not detect your keyboard and install a driver for it, your keyboard may be bad. After you restart open up Device Manager again. If your keyboard shows up but has a yellow ! icon, it indicates that the driver failed to load, which can indicate a hardware problem.

If you have another keyboard or can borrow one from a friend, try it to see if it works. If it doesn't you may have a problem with your motherboard.

If your keyboard came with drivers which you installed try removing those drivers with add /remove programs in control panel and using the built in drivers that come with windows or an updated driver from the manufacturer's download page.

Note: I recommend that you never unplug the keyboard while the computer is turned on. I've seen keyboards and keyboard BIOS die this way. Although newer computers usually don't exhibit problems, I still recommend against it (unless it's a USB keyboard, in which case you can at will do all the pudding and unplugging you like).

windows XP normally detect the Keyboard automatically without the need of any driver, except if you are using wireless keyboard. if 'restart' does not solving the problem, I will suggest you to :-

1) switch off the computer
2)Unplug the keyboard (Wait for 1 - 2 minute)
3)Replug it
4) Restart the Computer

If still not working,

1) please try the keyboard onto other computer (different computer that's work fine),

Not Working?

1)Try swap them over with the keyboard that you are sure In working condition 'your mate computer probably'.

If it is working now, then you need to buy a new keyboard

If it is a hardware failure, there is nothing you can do but buy a new one. Keyboards rarely have any issues with the drivers as they dont need them. Some keyboards have software that is being used to program additional keys on the keyboard but that is not a driver whatsoever.

Keyboards cost about $15. Buy a new one.

One additional step you can take is to reseat your keyboard. I could give you specific instructions if I knew what laptop or desktop keyboard make and model was. Basically it involves grounding yourself (I rest my feet on metal bars), taking out the tiny screws with a tiny screwdriver, carefully unhooking the keypad from the base, carefully rehooking it, then screwing everything back together.

I have done this myself and it has worked.

Depends on what happened to it. You can either reinstall the software from the manufaturere's website or else you'll need to purchase a new keyboard.
