Five dollars huh? Well you can't buy very much for five dollars. I can get a bag of apples for under five dollars, a loaf of bread, peanut butter and a bunch of bananas. But then with all that you have to add tax here. So that would probably be it.

Cereal. Goes with the milk, enriched with vitamins and minerals. Can be eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner. Can be eaten dry as a snack. A box will last a couple of days until you can get more money.

instant potatoes $ 1.00

A large can of crushed tomatoes,pasta , eggs, and if enough $$ left, potatoes....that should tide ;you over.
You can make a big pot of pasta and sauce,and will have leftovers.
Make eggs (scramble, fry, served with tomato sauce) Make a pasta frittata with leftover pasta, sauce and eggs and bake. Have potatoes microwave 'baked', fried up with the eggs, roasted and tossed with leftover sauce...lots of possibilites....just gotta get creative...i have done this many times.

Cornbread mixes and dried pinto beans. Its filling, has protein and fiber and you can get it for five dallars. It will take 3 or 4 hours to cook the beans.

You didn't say how long the food had to last...a day? ...a week? So I will answer for a week... Oatmeal, cheap margerine and a doz eggs.
