I have a newer Toshiba satellite notebook computer, running windows xp with service pack 2.
It has a celeron M processer with 1.6ghz speed.
But only 256mb of memmory.
It runs slow and is not very good at multi tasking(often freezes up)
Could this be because of the low memory?
How much is enough?
Where is the best place to get some?
Thanks.

more ram could only help, its almost slandered now days to have 4x what you have of ram. Windows itself is using alot of what you have available.

you also should make sure you have a good antiviruis program that is up to date and runs scans often, I like Norton, but there are many good ones. Also you will need two good anti-spyware programs (both work in a different way, together they work great) Lavasofts ad-aware and spy bot search and destroy. keep them up to date and run them often. do all this and that Toshiba should run like a rocket ship!

I have a Compaq Presario with the same specs. Except now I have increased my memmory. I added an additional 512mb RAM. Now it runs a LOT faster than before and I am able to multi task without any problems.

256 mb is not enough for XP. Get an upgrade to 512 mb or better yet, 1 gb.
