Well, you may be thinking "alternative medicine" or "homeopathic medicine," which are different things but neither is really accepted as part of standard western medicine.
At any rate, these are theories of health that include using things like Saint John's Wort to treat depression.

an Osteopath, is a doctor who uses things like that and is into having the body heal itself rather than prescriptions too - but he also does have the ability to write occassional prescriptions. But you're probably looking for "Alternative Medicines". It's big in Asia,

homeopathy is the practice. i use melatonin which is an herbal suppliment for my autistic son to help him sleep at night. there are several types of "remedies" that help in all sorts of ways. check out this site it may give you more indepth answers.
