What is the name of the lake next to Border Town, NV?

I'm trying to find out the name of the lake and why it turns white as the day progresses.

White Lake
check the mapquest site below.

There was a smelter on the side of the lake at one point maybe that has something to do with it. (I don't really know)

I don't know the answer but I know it isn't Tahoe, that one stays blue all day long. And I've been there a lot, never saw Border Town around there.
