Dead Poet's Society is a very powerful film. It is always on my list when someone asks for my top ten films. It basically says that we should sieze the day, take risks in life. But, sometimes others do things that we don't understand and that hurt us. Or at least that's what I remember. It's a great film and should be required viewing for high school students.

I remember watching Dead Poets' Society as a teenager and thinking, "YES! Seize the Day! This is the way, express yourself no matter what, this is MY life and I'm gonna live it to the full!" Now, more than a decade later, I look at it with a certain feeling of sceptisism.. it's all good when all you've got to think about is yourself.. I think when you're older you realise that there are so many other factors involved in decision-making, like consideration for your family, friends, etc. Even your own future - come on, we all live in the real world with bills to pay!
I think it's a wonderful inspirational film for teenagers but I get a strange feeling we as a society have been doing too much of 'carpe diem' lately - do modern teenagers really feel restrained and not confident enough to speak their minds? Yeah right.. Try working in a school..
Maybe the message of the film was more appropriate back in the early 90s when it was made. Although you can't help but admire the purity of expression through poetry! I'll take it any day!

I saw Auntie Mame when I was a small child: I thought it was a true-life story about a stage mother and a child who grew up to become a burlesque queen and singer. Dead Poet's Society is a film that teaches all of us to "seize the day" and not waste our time on doing all these little things we absolutely hate in life. March to your own drummer. Unfortunately, sometimes, I wonder if I'm still marching in the "same" group nowadays!

I've seen Dead Poet's Society. I thought it was a really good movie! I love those kind of movies, especially if they're set "back in the day"

No. They are just examples of what life can be.
In no way do they reflect "real life." But they are great films! Lucille Ball as Auntie Mame is a blast also!
