Best advice is to look at two-family and four-family buildings. They are usually owned by landlords who do not have access to credit bureau reports. Most of them will have you fill out an application, but few of them will follow up with phone calls to check your references. They usually consider themselves good judges of character, and as long as you have a job, they will rent to you.
