If W's were called W's because they looked like double U's put together, then why do we make them pointed on the bottom instead of round like a U? Why are they like this: W instead of something like UU?

Because the person who decided what the letters should look like had just made the V and was getting tired of trying to figure out how to design all the letters. So, he just put two V's together and it came out like W.

Does it matter? would u rather it be called double V because its ends are pointed like a V. V + V = vv

w's where originaly curved like u's so its actualy a widespread typo, today some might argue that w's are pointed cause when curved perverts see a pair of **** and pointed w's have no perverted second means

the whole curved w's thing looking like **** sounds stupid to me... but thats society for ya!
