John Prescott was elected as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party in accordance to the rules of the party.

Not quite one member, one vote because there are 'Block votes' from the Trade Unions, but it wa according to the rules.

As Deputy Leader of the party in power, he was given a position in the Cabinet. He has held several positions before taking up the post of Deputy Prime Minister.

Don't take the line being pushed by some that he is an idiot - he is far from that. This guy left school at 15 and worked as a seaman before working his way up into Government.

OK, so recently he has made some daft choices on a personal level, but he isn't stupid.

Blair was worried as he was one of the only socialists available for high office. Blair is blessed with so many low intellect brainless people around him he sometimes looks good. He got caught dipping his wick, caused a bit of a scandal and, because he is such a good loyal pal of Tony's, rather than being shown the door he was just stripped of his responsibilities while keeping the perks of the job.
