There was a movie made in the 1980’s, about a rock band from the (60's? I think) that only made one or two albums because the lead singer of the band was thought to have driven his car off a bridge. The body was never recovered ,so there is speculation that he may still be alive. I can’t recall the name of the movie or the band. One song in particular had something to do with “Night”. I seem to recall that the song was written on a roof top where the band had practiced.
Can someone please tell me what the name of the band, lead singer and or movie is please?
If I recall anymore details I will update my post, but for now this is the best I can do.. Thanks.. :-)

Eddie and the Cruisers.

Michael Pare' and Tom Beringer were in the movie.

The music was actually performed by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band.

Update: a later answerer posted the correct info about the band that actually performed the music for the movie while I was editing my answer. I thought I'd share with you my response to his e-mail.

"Fact: I had posted the correct title to the movie first. The reality is that I am really a very slow typist (literally no typing skills at all, focusing more on grammar and spelling) and posted the answer, then edited my answer with more info that I already knew. Of course, you would not know this was the case.

I used to be a mobile DJ in the 80s and a nightclub DJ as a second job back in the early 90s, so the facts of the music were well within my realm of knowledge... I'm just not able to get all the information out there as fast as you nimble-fingered youngsters."

So, my open-posting update here is to be clear that the asker of the question (and other answerers) be aware that someone after me did, in fact, have more details posted first.

I didn't earn nearly 20,000 points on here by skimming after the fact.

Best wishes, All!!

The movie you're talking about is Eddie and the Crusaders. A sequel was made in '89 called "Eddie and the Cruaders II: Eddie Lives!" Apparently, Eddie wasn't really dead. And song... are you talking about "Wild Summer Nights"?

If you liked that movie and wanna see others that are similar, "Still Crazy" is about a band from the 70s coming back together for a reunion, and "Velvet Goldmine" is about a reporter's search for a missing rockstar from the 60s, who faked his own death during a show.

Movie: Eddie & the Cruisers
Band: The Cruisers
Lead singer: Eddie Wilson, played by Michael Pare.
Contains the best lip-synched songs I've ever seen.
Soundtrack: John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band; from Canada.

p.s. for "racingcowboy" above, way to reconfigure your answer, only after others, like me, provided more info than you did; you're a poser.
