how do you play an acoustic guitar?

i mean like how do you play notes, gahhh! it's like when i put my fingers on the frets and stuff it doesn't even sound right

Just the same as an electric one ;D

But seriously. It may not be tuned, or you may be plucking the wrong strings. Many notes require just 4 or 5 strings to be plucked. Or it could be a nylon-string classical style guitar. They sound a LOT different than steel strings. Lastly, you may not be doing it fast enough. 1 at a time, not good. 4 in a half a second, good.

Use a chord chart to learn what fingers go on which frets... practice just being able to play different chords, then work on switching from one chord to another in tempo so you can start playing some songs.
