Are cotton balls becoming a thing of the past?

I used cotton balls last month when I got my ears repierced. It was my birthday present from my daughter (the piercing, not the cottonballs). So I used the cottonballs to dab the special stuff on my ears to keep them from getting infected. I also use them to remove nail polish although I seldom wear it.
