What kind of modem do you have? It will tell you if you're losing a connection with your ISP. IM me if you want, I have special training with SBC products.
I'm assuming this is a DSL connection. To answer your question you should first check and see that _all_ (and I mean all, every single one) of your phones have been properly filtered. Also check that anything else that plugs into phone line (alarm system, TiVo, some Satellite TV receivers) are filtered as well

I have AT&T/SBC DSL and never had a problem.
Did you install the filter for your phone like they show? You have to have a filter on every phone in your house!

Try disconnecting your internet for about 10 minutes, then restarting it. Do you still get the same thing? If you do, you should call SBC Techsupport.

Yeah, without sounding too harsh, get a better ISP! I have been using Verizon for a couple of years, it's OK, most of the time I don't have problems. Cable is WAY faster, but cost WAY more too!

if you have dial up and don't want that to happen, call your phone company and get a second phone line, one for internet, one for phone.
if you have dsl, it should not happen
