What are some of the challenges we face in launching such a flight?

It probably take around 15 years to make a manned space flight to the Red Planet. It really depends on how commited NASA is and the budget that would be given to go ahead. One major challenge is the time factor- it would take more than two years to reach Mars. Another factor is the unpredictable conditions on such a hostile planet which could lead to all kinds of mechanical problems. The biggest challenge is essentials like food and water, how are they going to supply enough of that for such a long and harsh journey?

I wish i would know that answer. But i hate to admit it but i think it will be a lot of time after. After all, the thing that went to space just returned and the scientist need to examine the rocks of mars carefully before sending a man to mars. And also they need new and better technologies.

One of the biggest challenges in sending humans to Mars is answering the question, "Is that the best way to spend our space program money?"

I think we need to work on figuring out where there are Earth-like planets for us to inhabit.

Probably NEVER because it would take like 17 YEARS to get there, at 17000mph, the speed we travel around the Earth! By the time someone got there, they'd be ready for burial by the time they got back!!!!!!!! Just IMAGINE a trip that took 34 YEARS just for the ROUND TRIP!!

Probably never ... because we seem more determined to waste our resources fighting with each other to prove we're "right".
