I had no idea it was based on a book, I always thought it was based on Vietnam. At their concert I went too they had a huge Vietnam War type introduction to that song.

The song "One" is based on a novel by "Dalton Trumpo" called
"Johnny got his gun" there's also a movie with the same title.
It's a fantastic song!
