If you adopted a pet rescued after hurricane Katrina and the owners finally found their pet(the one you adopted) would you give it back to them?? I saw an article in People magazine about people not giving people their pets back and I was just wondering how many people would let the original owner have their pet back and how many would take them to court for "custody" of the animal.

These people that won't return them say they deserve to lose them because they left them behind. Most of these pets were raised from puppies with these families and these families have children begging for their pets back.

I believe they should give them back. Their pets are all most people have left of their former lives. They are their family members. If they didn't love them they wouldn't still be searching after almost a year now.

Remember that these people had NO choice to leave or not. Some people were dragged out because the didn't leave and promised that their pet would be rescued and held and taken care of until they returned for them. The article also said a LOT of these pets were adopted out WAY before the 6-12 months that they were supposed to be held.

I feel sure that I would. No matter how much I had come to love and care for someone else's pet I would always feel that returning it to a loving owner was the right thing to do.

Those poor people lost their whole lives and the "authorities" would not let them have their beloved companions evacuate with them. How could you deny them the return of their animals knowing how much they have suffered?

Another part of this question could be "what if the true owners of the pet you adopted were trashy, cold-hearted people?"

I see pet owners all the time who obviously don't care for their pet as well as someone else would.

I would definitely want to give a pet back to it's true owners... but it would be hard if the people were dumbasses.

This makes me mad because the original owners should have them most of there pets either were lost during the storm or they had no choice of them being left behind or not. That is my opinion whats yours?Oh ya it also depends on the original owners actual care for the pet.

If they didn't worry about their pet's well-being, then the answer is no. I would have stayed with my pet no matter what.Either the pet goes with me or I don't go.If people were asked to adopt, then that's a little more permanent than just being a temporary care giver. It also applies to humans.

i would definitely give it back! those people lost EVERYTHING. the decent thing to do would be to give back the last, and most emotional object they ever owned...goodness. those people are so insensitive.
hopefully the other pets that have been located find their rightful owners!
