Yes, I would do a thicker band style ring. If you are thinking of a stone you should go for either a long oval or a marquis shaped stone. They will make your finger appear longer. Titanium metal, in my opinion, you should have no problem with either. Tension settings are alot better than the traditional settings because they don't get in the way quite as much, but if you have a real strenuous job I would go for just a band ring. Or something else I thought of, they have band rings with stones burnished in the metal so it is smooth and there are no prongs. Hope I helped some and good luck.

Thicker bands r great for chubby fingers. I have big knuckles and my engagement ring was a thick band of white gold with rows of diamond and blue diamonds across..did not make my fingers look big at all. If you don't like diamonds, get some other stone or just a plain band. I would not recommend titanium. The only reason is...if you have big fingers and it gets stuck, then there is no getting it off, titanium cannot be cut through.

I wonder if a wider/chunkier ring might be best, and go to a proper jeweler that will size it to your exact ring size. As an alternative to prong settings, you can have whatever stone(s) you want set into the metal (that is the style of my wedding band). As for types of stones, just about anything goes these days. Congrats on the engagement!!

Yes get a wide band with inset gem of your choosing or opt just to get a wide band wedding ring be sure and get a ring size that fits you do not try to squeeze your finger into an uncomfortable ring hopefully if all goes well you will be wearing this ring for the rest of your life.Check out www.QVC.com click on jewelry then diamonds then rings, there are alot of colored diamonds that are beautiful and it looked like several choices of band rings or stack able rings that would be perfect.Congrats on your engagement.

I have big hands and fingers that fit my hand. It took lots of trying on rings before I found one that was nice looking on my hands. The problem is the rings you try on only fit about half way up the finger so you have to imagine what they look like in the correct position. I found that a smaller size on the bottom and then something that flares out and is larger looks best on my hand. Don't get discouraged and congratulations on your engagement!

my fingers are not slender. my wedding/engagement ring is 13 tiny diamonds set into 3 wavy lines which are part of the band. the band narrows on the underside of my finger. i think this design works because it is very ornate, but no huge stones sticking out. the broader face hides some of the part that would poke out.
i got my ring in india, but i imagine with some shopping you could find something where you live that you like.

I think if you stuck with a solid gold band, and then maybe have a band done with the two of yours birthstones, if it's something that goes together. then you don't have to worry about prongs, or diamonds. I would have said a Marquise but some of them sit really high and would get in the way all the time.
Congratulations on your engagement, hope you find something you like.

I'm not big, but my fingers are pretty chubby. My jeweler helped me select an appropriate band. Anything too thin will make the fat bulge out, and a ring too thick will make your finger look too big, or if your hands are small like mine, too cluttered, with no room for a wedding band, too! Check out bands with inlaid designs, like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190007743168&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=009 (that's actually my wedding band!:) )
Just because you go to a jeweler doesn't mean you have to buy from her/him. Get an idea in a real store of what looks best on your hand.

Since you're not into diamonds, pick your favorite stone and opt for a large one... emerald or cushion cut would be great and go for a wider style in both the engagement ring and wedding band. Best wishes!
