I have 2 kids, each plays the Sims2. We would like to have two separate instances of the game on the same computer, such that each kid could play the game, create houses, families, etc. without messing up what the other kid has done. I have searched EA games web site and various FAQs and can't find a solution.

Don't know if you can do this. Why don't you give each child their own neighborhood to play with. You can make new ones pretty easily and that way they each have their own place to build up and make families for. I have different neighborhoods that I have made... I have themes for them. One of them is the Simstones (Flintstones)... it's pretty cool because they even have the flintstones car and the woolly mammoth shower.

The solution as suggested is to give each child a windows login of their own, and their own password. Each user will have their own mint copy of the game to start with and their progress will be saved in individual accounts.

If they want to share things, they can create a shared folder to put common things into - Then each can try out the others houses and such.

I keep a couple of my own user accounts on my main machine. It helps with troubleshooting other applications. I did find that each user name starts out with their own mint version of the Sims 2 which was interesting as one of the accounts had a downloaded hack I installed, and it of course, didn't affect the user accounts on other logins.

They just won't be able to play simultaneously or interactively.

Here's a possible workaround: You could try making two accounts on your computer, one for each kid and install sims twice, once per account. Each will have their separate set of the game without messing each other's game up by mistake (or not :P)
