Nothing is completely safe, but limewire and torrentspy are good. www.singingfish.com is pretty nice too.

Morpheus I have heard is pretty good but limewire is great too and Kazza is starting to suck but still pretty good.

i use mp3 rocket and xolox. xolox scans for viruses before you download. good program search capabilities etc. you can find both with user ratings at download.com
