That would be OK BUT if Iran had the bomb and invaded Iraq, Israel, Kuwait...etc. What country would you call to protect the rest of the middle east...France?????
After WWI the US was powerless in European affairs (as maybe it should be). Germany was able, under your watch, to regain its strength and spread terror through your continent. The USA (though we tried to stay out of it) was sucked into a war to protect your land. Our soldiers died next to yours in the fight against Nazi terror. From the elderly in the US (those that served in WWI and/ or WWII) the stories are clear that Europe failed to protect against terror twice in fifty years and could very well do it again. It is history that mandates the US either acts first when the threat is young or wait to play clean up after the evil has become far more powerful.
Whether you THINK that is true or not it is a fact. I ask you why should US trust Europe to take action to secure their own lands??? (UK is the exception to this view on Europe. Americans still trust the British with their lives)

Larger nations, especially ones with a modern, well trained, and well equipped military, will always be considered a "greater threat" because they can't be effectively threatened by the smaller nations to "do what we want you to do".
Doesn't matter if we're currently at war or not -- smaller nations are a minor thorn unless they all band together (which will happen about the same time that hell freezes over because so many smaller nations prefer small minded bigotry to a real, if flawed, foreign policy.)
I admit to being an American, so don't bother decrying me for being biased. I admit and even revel in it. While I question a number of actions my nation has taken very much, I trust all of the other nations in the world even less. And most I don't trust at all. And the UN can't even tie it's own shoes without 18 resolutions that will be ignored by half of those who voted for them.
Since someone has to have the biggest stick, I'm glad it's us. If you could snap your figners and make someone else the biggest stick, all it would do is shift who is the "biggest threat" and if you lived there, you'd be lieing to yourself if you didn't feel as I do about it currently being my country.

Being in America I could honestly care less what the rest of the world thinks. I'd like to ask the rest of the world to get their aid from Iran from now on so we can save all the money we give the rest of the world...and while they are at it buy all the products and engage all the services Iran produces and leave ours alone for us to enjoy here in the states. That is what I think about that.
PS...I hope the rest of the world doesn't come asking for American help when terrorist detonate a nuke from Iran somewhere.

The BBC is a left wing news group. The Guardian is a freak newspaper.
Ignore them. Most of the world is frightened of Iran.

I agree totally. We want World Peace, but what are we doing to try to achieve that? Invading Iraq? HA! That just pissed more people off at us than there already was. Telling a country that they cannot have Nuclear Weapons...I'm sorry how are we really to be telling other countries what they can and cannot have to defend themselves. Oh and netjr, your attitude is EXACTLY the reason why the rest of the world thinks we are the bully on the block. Anyway....have a nice day!

I do not think we are a threat to world peace, but try to perserve peace throughout the world. Of course I wouldn't advertise any military operations, nor would I discuss it, if I was in charge I would simply have my commando's kill all the terrorist and leader's who support terrorism, while the rest of the world wakes up in the morning and doesn't have to worry about a bunch of nuts trying to blow up civilians on flights from England to the USA.

IN answer to one of the replies here, Iran not only is a biggie for international aid but also accepts huge numbers of immigrants. An inconvenient fact that is unreported in American media but known throughout the rest of the world.
