When you are in college, you have more independence. No teachers hounding you to get your homework in or show up for classes. It's up to you to show up for class, do homework, prepare for class, take tests, etc.

A normal class load is 12-15 credit hours. This means you are in class 12-15 hours a week. One class could be 3 hours- this means you meet 3 hours a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays for example).

There are many good colleges and universities in Ohio. You can ask your high school guidance counselor for information about Ohio colleges. You could also look them up on the Internet.

When the time comes, perhaps you can schedule a visit and walk around campus, talk to faculty and students. It's a nice experience.

Keep up your grades. Spanish 2 is good- you may need to take some language classes in order to fulfill your degree requirements.

The biggest difference between college and high school is that, in college, no one is pushing you to get up out of bed, make all your classes and do the homework. The professors don't care if you show up. You pay for your classes at the beginning of the term.

In college, it is assumed that you are an adult and are able to make the choices you need to suceed. If you choose to take only one or two classes, for, maybe five or six hours a week, then fine. If you want to load yourself up with fifteen or twenty units and put in 60 to 80 hours of class and study time, then that is your choice.

YOU make those choies, and YOU either push yourself to apply the effort, or be ready to fail.

If you are nervous about all the pressure I described, then perhaps a community college is the best way to start. You can begin with only a few, core classes that lead to a degree. This give you the maximum freedom to work out a study schedule, and maybe even get a job to pay for your education.

As you get the feel of what you can handle, the next term you can add a class or two, until you get the balance between successful studies and being overwhelmed. Whenever you are ready, then you can consider transferring to a four year college or university.

College is very different from high school. You can go for 2 days in a week or you can go 5 days in a week. It's your choice. However, the more days in a week that you attend college, the faster you can graduate. Every class you take, you either get 1,2,3,4,or 5 credits kind of like high school. You need a certain amount of credits to graduate but you get to choose when you take the class. Check w/ your college for more information.

It's not that hard. You will do okay, just need to study. The classes are layed back and the teachers aren't very helpful. You learn most on your own. The classes are 3-4 hours with a 15 to 30 minute break inbetween.

Gluck!

In college, you can set your own schedule. Normally, a full-time course load includes fifteen hours of LECTURE time per wek. This is five classes, with three hours of lectures per class each week. If your classes have optional labs (normally for language, science or computer courses) or tutorials (small groups that meet to discuss the subjects addressed in class- normally in Humanities and Social Sciences) you'll have some extra hours of work (often one hour per lab/tutorial each week).

Most programs allow you to select your own schedule, so you can fit together the courses in a way that allows you to spend your time wisely. One semester I went to school from 4.30-9.30 every night, and had all day free. Another semester I didn't take any classes on Fridays. It's your responsibility to build the schedule that is best for you.
