I mean do they go to certain functions for spouse, or help campaign, or just sit back looking nice? I am just wondering

Basically, wives are little more than proof that the politician is not gay. tehy can campaign and try to win votes. In the case of Bush who's wife is far more popular than he is, she's a puppet that appears in his place to talk to minority groups like blacks and Jews that he doesn't like.
