My first car was a stick shift. Absolutely loved it. My dad made sure I could drive both before I started dating. Wanted to be sure if a guy tried anything that I could knock him out and drive myself home. I still prefer stick shift.

I did learn to drive one, my first car was a 5-speed. I still drive it! :) I did have to learn to drive on an auto. It was all my mom had, so I had to wait a few months to get a manual, I got the car a month before my b-day (16th). And I started learning to drive it slowly. It was interesting. My mom used my car until I could, and I used her car. Then once I finally got the hang of my car, I loved it. I still do. It's my baby :)

I've had a three speed on the wheel, several four speeds and a five speed and I used to ride motorcycles (which require shifting gears with your foot as you probaby already know). I have an automatic now and I enjoy it, especially on long (1700 mile) drives, but I do miss zipping around, shifting gears in a little car. They're fun! (-:

My first car was a stick and my sted-dad taught me to drive it. (Talk about some tension) Nowdays I prefer an automatic but still enjoy driving a stick on occasion.
The key is to relax and listen to your engine. It will tell you when it's time to shift.

I can drive stick shift but prefer automatic b/c there's always a lot of traffic by me so it makes driving easier... but stick is more fun to drive... acutally, my car has the steptronic, so I get to shift without the clutch...
