Every profession has a shelf life, I think the deal with Lance is that, last year he wins his 7th straight Tour De France, Once you get that under your belt, its kind of like playing a game with a friend and winning everytime, you get bored. For lance, I think that is what has happened, he got bored.
Is he a has been, I think that would be like saying a year after Jordan retired, he was a has been. By definition a has been is someone like Mike Tyson, He was a great fighter, and anytime he has tried to comeback, he has been punished, hardly even know he was a champion.
Give it 5 years, have him try to comeback and win the tour de france, if he loses(not in the top 10) then he is a has been.
my two cents, He definitely not a has been.

A "has been"? That only applies to actors/actresses, not to athletes. Lance is da MAN.

I wouldn't characterize him as a "has been". He's retired, went out on top. I think of a "has been" as someone who's obviously lost it, but just won't let go. Think Mike Tyson.
