In america you can have something sent to you in care of General Delivery of a post office. You have 30 days to pick it up. Canada probably has something similar. Ask at your post office.

It depends how the package is sent! Usually they will try and deliver it once. If you are not home they leave a notice. Once you get the notice just go down to the post office indicated on the notice and show two pieces of I.D and they will gladly give you the package.
Also live in Canada!

Can you have your mail held at the post office for the period of time you are expecting the package? It will mean you have to wait to see all your mail, but I am not sure how you could specify one package to be held at the post office, unless possibly you had it address to general delivery and had instructions to hold at post office for you.

After your name, instead of a street address put, 'General Delivery' followed by state, province, zip code or whatever else it is you use in Canada.

Just go to the post office and let them know what you are expecting, when, and asked if they can hold it.

I can't speak for Canada, but you can always contact them and ask them to hold it, but (with the exception of Express Mail), they do that automatically
