we're a couple (34yo - 27yo) with no children. Looking for towns with some college choices, affordable rent, job opportunities, public transportations, attractions, low crime.... hope that our list isn't very long :-)
thanks

Ok stay far far away from Salem unless you want crime, meth labs, drugs, etc. I would NEVER go out after dark in that town. It used to be a nice place but now it is the run down sister to Portland.

West Linn is nice and it is close to everything. It has very little crime too which is nice...always a plus to come home to the house just the way you left it ;) Some public trans.

Lake Oswego is nice and safe and quiet, but expensive. Some public trans.

Beaverton is good too - close to Intel, Nike and all the high tech stuff. Plus housing is more affordable than either West Linn or Lake O. Best public trans of the 3 towns I named so far.

I don't know alot about Eugene but everyone I know from there loves it.
Bend is great - but property values are moving up quickly.

I'd stay away from Salem, Hillsboro, Gresham, Aloha, Keizer, Tualatin, Tigard, Canby...
That's just me though. The top 3 cost more to live in but are safer and the houses are nicer. The last group is cheaper and have more crime and drugs. I don't know enough about Bend and Eugene to say much about the crime though :(

PS I forgot Monmouth and Corvallis...good places to live methinks :)

Salem or Eugene. I saw a list of the best places to live for families, worst place for singles; it was Salem. Salem is much smaller than Eugene. Eugene has a more vibrant downtown and is a big college town. Good luck.

My wife and I went to Oregon this past May on vacation. We liked Salem. Tillamook and Oceanside also seemed like nice communities. The suburb of Portland, Beaverton, also seemed to be quiet and clean.

Don't move to Eastern Oregon. Anything east of the mountains is semi-arid. Translation, it's hot and dry and unappealing. If you are interested in the greeny woodsy Oregon, stay west of the mountains.

Beaverton, Portland (large but not your typical city), and anywhere near Washington State.
