I know exactly how you feel
Tell him how much he means to you AS A FRIEND
and tell him you wouldn't be able to look at him like a boyfriend
and that youd rather remain friends for now.

I've been stuck in that situation before, with my best guy friend. It is extremely hard, at first I tried to avoid him and he ended up getting hurt because he thought I didn't want to talk to him no more. So, then I simply told him that I see him more as a friend, and that one day there will be a special girl out there for him.

Try talking to him, he might understand, and no one will end up getting stuck in an akward situation or end up getting hurt.

I would try really hard not to destroy the friendship by turning it into something more. Too many friends are torn apart by dating. I was friends with this guy, and we kinda liked each other, so we went out for a few months. It didn't work out, and we haven't spoken since. Don't let that happen to you.

As a guy who was once on the receiving end of a girls lack of feelings I will tell you to do what they did to me, tell them the truth in a very loving and caring way. Chances are you will break his heart but sooner or later he will get over it. Just don't tell him you love him like a brother...that will hurt and frustrate him even more.

has he told you he likes you more than a friend? or do you think you've been getting signals? the best approach, i'm sorry to say, as embarrassing as it is, is to talk to him. don't make it a big deal or put pressure, because wrong things will come out under stress. be gently inquisitive. just ask him :)

Well, you're stuck in a rut. Nothing you can do. Either date him, even if you don't like him, or end the friendship. Not dating him will hurt him. When you date someone else, and he sees, he'll hate himself, you, and your boyfriend. Either way, it's painful. It just depends on who gets hurt. You, or him. It's your choice.

What ever you do don't shelter him from the fact you don't like him. Make it clear that you want someone else, that you will like other guys so when you are with someone else it won't be so damaging to your friendship.
