WRONG! Someone did just read that...I did! And I know where you're coming from. But do I think that America is still asleep? Not after 9-11; we got a real wake-up call that morning. We got another in 1993 with the first WTC bombing; but Clinton hit the "snooze button" on that one, too!

And now, just recently, the terrorists captured in England. How loud does the alarm have to be, America!!!???

Buddy, you are right on the mark!

Long questions turn people off, especially when the are mis-formatted so they are hard to read.

WW3 didn't start in the 1970s any more than WW2 started in the 1910s. Events happen that create situations. Those situations linger and interact with other events.

But for something to be classified as world-war, it needs to be a single inter-connected series of battles, with an organized objective and fought by the same parties. So far, none of the skirmishes and regional conflicts we've had in the past few decades have met these requirements.

It might happen, if the various conflicts in the Middle East spill into one another, and if a conflict occurs in Asia (North Korea, or India-Pakistan) that spills into and connects with the Middle East conflicts. But it hasn't happened yet.

Jimmy Carter was the worst President, he allowed the Shaw to be over throwen by the Ayatollah Komanie, and Iran became a terrorists state with the radical Ayatollah, and the radical teachings of Islam, and now it has spread all through the Middle East. I meant a lady from Iran that said she had to flee for her life, she said her family was almost killed, and she had to leave everything behind and her family was wealthy. Now they have nothing. Now the radicals want to make every nation an Islamic country.

Please, I do not mean to offend people in saying this, but I think you have to realize that this piece is awfully short-sighted. I, by all means, support American freedom and the liberties inherent in being American, but I still disagree with the argument to go to war. Here's why:

The conflict that the U.S. finds itself in is not a matter of they bombed us so we should go kill all of them off. Instead, it is a conflict of ideology. There is a belief in the Middle East that capitalism is evil. There is a belief that Americans are becoming too controlling. And there is a belief that Christianity and all that it stands for is evil.

An ideology is not rooted out simply by moving in and killing lots of people. True, Hitler and Mussolini's ideologies died with them following World War II, but that's the only case. The entire Middle East is a different story. You can go in, kill the alleged leaders of each country, but the ideas are rooted in the common people. One person dies, another rises up, indignant about the killing of the former, and is even more adamant in passing on their beliefs.

The U.S. has, throughout history, gotten into a habit of becoming the world's police force. Various wars, missions overseas, all in the name of world security and national security have been carried out. But what the U.S. has yet to realize is that the superpower that it's become this way is only an illusion. Along the way, the U.S. has created more and more enemies for itself. Many of which are in the Middle East.

Going into Iraq, or going to war against these people is exactly what they want. They want to show their children how evil Americans are, how Americans are willing to kill Muslims because it's the only way Americans know how to deal with a threat. These problems they have with Americans are problems with the government in general, problems with the way the government acts, and problems with the beliefs Americans have about government.

This is why going into Iraq was a mistake. By invading, not only has the U.S. proven to the rest of the Middle East that it is angered and willing to use force, but it has also driven the rest of the Middle East to action. Of course, not the whole Middle East holds anti-American sentiments, but there are enough (especially now) that simple military actions won't be able to eliminate them. The U.S. had the right idea in Afghanistan (and kind of in Iraq right now) with installing a government, but the U.S. is still spending too much time babysitting.

I won't make this anymore long-winded, but realize that this military action this general speaks of - this using brute force to eliminate terrorists - would never work. Terrorists share a same mentality, the same drive for doing what they do. You can't destroy something like that by military force. You need them to change their beliefs - and the difficulty of that is exactly why we still have large numbers of terrorists today.

Excellent. Liberals/Democrats, WAKE UP!!! Even with the facts in front of them and a time line, they will still blame President Bush. That is one true thing about a liberal, they thrive on propaganda like Michael Moore or some other idiot. They don't want the truth, they want to make it up and sell the 'idea'. What wackos!

wow, very good posting. I agree, Americans need to wake up and realize that the War in Iraq has a purpose. I am glad to see someone else that has a brain and knows that the war has a true purpose, one of security, and not of false liberal claims such as that the war is for oil. Beautiful posting.

great civilizations are seldom destroyed by outside forces, but usually from within!! that is exactly what is happening to the USA. your so called leaders have and continue to use fear of terrorism to manipulate you and whip you into a frenzy. and from your previous rantings i do believe they have succeeded in doing just that to you!!!!!!!! in Americas fear mongering mode we continue to deplete our human and money resources on needless wars while our credibility as a nation goes down the tubes. within 20 years America will possibly become a second rate nation. that is the real death of our once great nation, not some terrorist with a bomb on his/her back!! WAKE UP PEOPLE AND STOP BEING MANIPULATED BY FEAR AND MAKE YOUR POLITICAL DECISIONS ON FACTS NOT FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!
