If you are using Windows, go to Start, then Run, then type in msconfig. When the box appears, click the Startup tab. Anything on there that you don't want to have automatically start when you boot up, uncheck the box next to it.

If your process doesn't appear on that startup list, you'll have to add more details and let me know what the process is, so I can then tell you how to stop it. Chances are, though, that it will appear on that startup list.
