The pattern seemed to be the same in either shades of brown or blue. In the same way that Paisley has a basic pattern, so did this. Can any book lover help

You may be seeing paper with a marbled pattern. Here's what it looks like:

That site also gives the history of marbling paper. Old books with that kind of lining inside are lovely to have.
