hitting your straps is an Aussie expression....we would say getting into your stride.....basically when you start to perform at your best. Hope this helps.

Hitting the straps is when a fast bowler is able to generate the maximum effort through his(her) bowling delivery stride. Possibly so phrased because bowling boots usually have additional support in the form of straps across the foot, it is these straps that are being tested by the bowlers effort

How about the bowler has bowled and the ball hit the strap on the leg pad when it passed down the leg side as the batsman is playing a shot but misses. The wicket keeper catches it and an appeal goes up but the umpire adjudicates "it hit......"
