Lyrical ~ Expressing deep personal emotion or observations: a dancer's lyrical performance; a lyrical passage in his autobiography.
Highly enthusiastic; rhapsodic: gave a lyrical description of her experiences in the South Seas.

Ancient Greeks used lyrical poetry and put said writings to music. Thus, I would have to assume that lyrical would refer specifically to literature before music. In modern times, we write lyrics to go with music so I would say that literature (writings) are the precursor to music.

I always thought that "Lyrical" was more closely associated to literature. However, when I did my research I found it to be more rooted in music.
