Generally laptop and notebook refer to a portable computer but more specifically, a notebook is considered to be smaller than a laptop. Notebooks are also smaller and lighter than laptops but they have less power but more battery life. Laptops will generally have more features, more powerful processors but less battery life. There are two types of PDA's, those made by Palm which use the Palm OS and PocketPCs which run the Windows Mobile OS. That's the main difference between Palm PDAs and a PocketPC.

There is NOTHING different between these two terms. They are both names for exactly the same computer, which is a portable computer you can take with you. A laptop is a notebook and a notebook is a laptop.
I once wondered this same thing, but it was explained to me by a high quality electronics retail store. The use of these two interchangable terms, once confused me.
Good luck and keep being curious!

If you are over the age of 30 you will call it a a laptop.
If younger, and cool, you'll know it is a notebook.
The word "Laptop" is sooooo last century.
Lastly, becareful with the Apple Mac Book Pro... the metal case can run way too hot to sit on your lap.
