There are two kinds of motorcycle riders: Those that have gone down and those that are going down. Street bikes are EXTREMELY dangerous; they offer no protection from collisions and motorists in cars and trucks will do everything in their power to kill you. At least in the trails you have no one to blame for your mishaps but yourself.

I've been riding 18 years (I'm 35 now)
The crash was 4/17/06, going through a corner about 10-15mph and the corner (which I've been through before)had more gravel than I remember
The bike went out from under me and I rode the rest of the way to work. Later that day I found out that I broke my wrist; other than that, I just had some light scrapes and bruises. It took about 7 weeks for the wrist to heal, but I never recovered in softball this year.
The bike was totalled (cosmetic damage is expensive!)so I now have a different bike, and I'm riding. I know I'll probably have another accident sometime, but thats why I wear a helmet. (Similar to the reason you buckle up in a car: you never know when you'll have an accident.)

This past January, here in Colorado, about 6:40 AM, riding to work. The woman in front of me does one of those "ride the brakes, then SLAM them on" type deals right before she rear-ends the guy in front of her. Busy street, heavy traffic, large truck behind me. I hit the brakes hard, my rear tire starts skipping and I try to swerve just enough to miss the dumb woman's car, but her mistake took away the last few feet I would have needed.
Had I stopped in time, the full size Ford Bronco behind would have crushed me.
My front tire missed the car, but the fairing and entire left side plowed into the corner of her car and I flew over the trunk. I remember swearing profusely right before impact. I landed on the pavement and rolled a bit, and what had started out at about 45 mph probably ended up at 25-30 before I hit.
My left knee still has a scar from where it hit her trunk, but the rest of my gear saved me from breaking anything or even getting any road rash. The thermoweld armor on the wrist of my left glove cracked in half to save my arm, my leathers were fine, and the shield on my full face helmet got scratched instead of my face.
The bike was totaled out by my insurance company, but I walked away. Any fool who thinks they can get away with crashing and still not wear a helmet & gear will only end up as roadkill.
I'm on my next bike now, and I still don't believe that motorcycles are any more dangerous than any other vehicle on the road.

-I was riding in the winter. 2 seprate times, coming up to a stop sign.....woosh. Down I went. I was doing less then 10mph when some ice got the best of me LOL. I was so bundled up because of the cold, I didn't feel a thing.
-I crashed a million times in the dirt and trails (between 3 & 30mph). Worst damage, some scratches, bruises, cuts and a little blood. No stiches.
-Thank's to quick reaction time, defensive driving and always expecting the unexpected, I've never had a collision while riding in the street. My upbringing, riding in the dirt, gave me the confidence to ride in the street as it's now second nature. I started riding in the dirt and had plenty of crashes with other riders. That's to be expected and unavoidable. But with the proper protection and riding gear, it's safer than playing pee-wee football.
I'll ride as long as my vision and mental faculties permit it.

Dirt Bike, I launched off of a mound of dirt about 10-12 feet in the air, went over the handle bars and landed on the back of my head and right shoulder, the bike almost landed on me, I had a concusion and shattered right collar bone, had a cast from the bottom of my chest up to my neck, 6 months off work. Don't own a bike but, I will still ride!

I tried to teach my friend how to ride my motorcycle.
While shifting from first to second, he got the clutch and the brake mixed up. Meanwhile, RPMS went to like 10,000. Once my friend released the clutch, disaster struck.
My friend was badly hurt and my bike was completely destroyed (so was the car that the bike ultimately ran into). My friend was not wearing a helmet and was knocked unconcious. He was bleeding all over the place. It was nightmarish. But he's fine now.
I trashed the bike and never bought a new one.
My friend never pursued a motorcycle license.

Very bad. Going around 15mph night road, my left femur snapped and broke through the flesh. Had to spend 2 months on orthopedic restraints and had a stainless steel implant to reconnect the bone but it didn't heal properly. Still has that implant since 13 years ago--don't want to go through the loads of medicines via IV, oral and all. Don't drive a motorcycle anymore but I do mountain biking just to strengthen the legs and be able to walk without crutches.

Twice about 20 years ago I had a girl on the back and was riding in the country she was on the back and reaching around holding a joint for me to hit and it go in my eye and I missed a turn and went right into the woods and hit a tree.I was going about 35 mph She broke her leg and I just got scratched and bruised up. My fender was bent and all I cared about was my bike. I took 20 min to get my bike back up to the and let her lay there . Man was she pissed. A car came by and I flagged them down and we put her in the car and they took her to the hospital. She never spoke to me again but my bike was fine. The second time a dog came out of no where and bit me on the leg and I took a spill and had a cracked rib and about 20 stitches. I was doing about 20 mph then.
