Okay - here's with the lawyer answer again. It depends. In most states, every payment of child support is due on the date set by the Court. If you miss it by even one day, you might technically be in contempt. Also in many states, the missed payment is automatically a judgment against you, and can go on your credit report at any time. Missing child support makes you a deadbeat - and in some states can cost you your driver's license. If you are more than a couple of thousand in arrears, your passport can be pulled by the state department.
Remember - the child support is for the benefit of the child - not for the parent with whom the child is living.

You're defaulted as soon as you miss a payment. Proceedings against you happen within 60-90 days, depending on the state where you received your judgment. If you lost your job or another problem has risen, call them. Call them right now. Do not avoid them, because you cant. Talk to them and explain the situation. Just one call could save your drivers license and keep you out of jail. Good Luck.

I believe 90 days in most states. Never get behind and you won't have to worry about default status.
