I had the same problem. It is trauma to the nail bed that my dermatologist said was the cause of the white spots. I was told - no professional manicures (too rough), I had to stop buffing my nails, and stop using any cuticle implements, and I had to stop using a towel to push back my cuticles when I was drying my hands.
It has been 11 months now and the white spots are finally gone.

there are a few reasons here for white spots on nails, have you bumped your hand or hit your hand on something? white spots will appear on your nails.. artifical nails or acrylic nails or excessive polishing and removing polish will produce white nails,a bacterial infection can produce white spots on nails, i have heard it say a vitiman deficincy will cause white spots.2 skin conditions can leave white spots, eczema and psoriais. as the nail gets longer the spots will disappear. im sorry i could not be more specific good luck

White Spots occur due to CALCIUM DEFICIENCY.
Don't be worried now, however, you should certainly take more multivitamins...I did this for a week or so, and they went away. This is the only way I know of to get rid of them. Hope that helps!

No. Those white spots on your nails are your body's way of telling you that you are deficient of a certain vitamin, mineral or protein. Most likely it is a protein deficiency, possibly a zinc one. Make sure your eating a balanced diet and those white spots should go away. Hope that helped!
