A friend asked me, and I wasn't quite sure about the answer. He's married and wanted to know if he should respect her privacy. He said he trusts he wife very much. Should he open or read mail that is already opened. And is it okay to read her email before asking? I told him I fully believe on privacy even in a marriage. Marriage is built on trust. But was that the best advise? What do you think?

My husband and I respect each others privacy. You gave your friend some good advice.

Heck yeah that's the best advice. If you trust someone you shouldn't go snooping through their things. If he wants to know what's in her mail the all he has to do is ask. However if he invades her privacy he could be invading the privacy of one of her friends which really isn't fair. I have a friend who sends me emails about things she wants advice on but doesn't want anyone else to know about.

The best advice (not advise) is basically what you gave. If he doesn't trust her, then they need to figure out together why. Is it his issue or is she not trustworthy? They should possibly attend counseling to get this worked out before it ruins their marriage.

yeh sure... her wife is an individual... she has her life, so as some privete matters... reading mails is never less than a mistrust... read them only if she shows you, and by the way, why does he need to... trust is the base of the relationship

Privacy means respect for each other. Therefore, it must be maintained at all costs.
