The strength of a silverback gorilla has never been measured, but it should be sufficient to say that anecdotal evidence of animals observed almost casually bending and snapping objects such as tempered steel bars (2 inches thick) and giant bamboo stalks, suggest that the gorilla has the muscle power of between 8-15 men and possibly more. Jersey Zoos Jambo was observed to hang from one arm (he was over 400 lbs) while methodically ripping over 200 ft of inner ceiling planks from the roof of the new gorilla house with his other arm (the planks were securely screwed and nailed), simply because he didn't like them. No other animal outside of the great apes has such a combination of strength and dexterity. The fact that gorillas don't use their strength to attack other animals in the manner of chimpanzees or baboons means very little as they are by their very nature, peaceful animals. Gorillas also have one of the most powerful jaws of any animal, which they use to get to the piths of various trees and plants. They can also use them in defense, and can inflict serious wounds with their bites if they so wish. Stories of their ferocity are largely unfounded, and when left alone, gorillas will never attack humans.

You get Hulk Hogan in the ring with a Silver Back Gorilla and if provoked
the Gorilla could tear the hulkster's arm completely off with no problem.
A gorilla is 10 times stronger than a healthy male. A chimp will tear you to
pieces. A baby chip can beat a man in a arm wrestle. Look at the size of
a gorilla and especially his arms. Solid Muscle.

Gorilla strength is mainly in the upper body. If you could get one of them on a bench press, he could lift about ten times as much as a strong man. A strong man can bench press about 250kg and a gorilla, if he would try, could lift about 2500kg (the weight of a large car, like suburban or expedition SUV).
But gorillas leg strength is only a little more than a man because gorilla legs are small. So when folks talk about phenomenal gorilla strength, they usually are thinking of strength from the waist up.
In the future, it will be possible to select a few gorilla genes and transfer that huge upper body strength to humans to make better NFL linemen. The trick will be to get the upper body genes only and not this little goofy legs. If the tackle has those little gorilla legs, he would have to chase the running back on all fours. But the running back could maybe get some ostrich genes or cheetah genes and then the gorilla lineman could not catch him. Unless of course he got some race horse genes … that would be ideal. Race horse hind legs and gorilla upper body strength.

gorillas are as strong as 8-10 men. Most of their strength is in their upper body, especially arms.
