My vision is 20/400 which is really bad. There was a time I really wanted to do the Lasik surgery. However, quite frankly, I am quite hesitant now... because of the possible side effects, and the other risks, etc.
I opted to try exercises to see if they would improve my vision. I created a blog so that people can follow my progress. You can check it out at

Im looking into it myself. Several of my friend and work colleagues have done it and they all say they wish they'd done it years ago! I'm too scared but I reckon I'll go for it soon coz my contact lenses are bugging me now. You are probably suitable for lasiks as it works best when you're not very short sighted and obviously you're not or else you'd be in glasses by now! You do need to see an optician to get your eyes tested (they do other health checks too to make sure your eyes are healthy) they can't force you to wear glasses if you don't want to! You can't get Lasiks until your vision has settled, you need to have a few prescriptions to show that your vision isn't changing otherwise if they do surgery then your eyes will change and you'll still need glasses. The surgery itself is easy and quick. they'll do one eye at a time ( a few weeks apart). It takes seconds to do and you'll feel your eye gritty for a few hours up to a day after and your vision won't be great for a couple of days then it all settles down and you'll be able to see. Word of warning though, it is very very effective but you are not guaranteed perfect vision, and your eyes can change after the surgery so you may not have perfect vision for ever. You'll not get surgery under the age of 18 and perhaps even 21 to lessen the chance of post surgery changes. Hope this helps.

One of my teachers underwent eye surgery this past year with no marked side effects other than having to apply eye drops/artificial tears every few hours. Well worth the trouble, I would think. And yes, as you may have inferred, it did work. I wouldn't go so far as to recommend it as my knowledge so far as eye surgery goes is limited, but I am planning on making arrangements for it as soon as is feasible (I'm frightfully nearsighted).

Lasik Surgery is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges kall types of surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as all types of surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your eye surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.hope this helps.

One of the MCs on a local radio station spoke of having it done and being able to go right back to work the next day. A doctor could give you more details.
