I am a very talented person that is trying to find the route to Nashville. If anyone knows the path to sucess please help me to get myself noticed. I am currently in a Gospel group, I compose all of the music for the group. The instruments that I can play are drums, guitar and I play piano. I have been told that I am one of the best piano players around. I just need some help to get started.

Start by getting a couple of good demo tapes. No one but no one who wants to get a gig in Nashville is found without one. Create one for drums, one for piano, one for music. Keep them with you at all times and offer them to anyone who will take it. Make sure they have y our Name and current phone number on them in PLAIN Letters.

Next, start going to all the studios around town. Especially the ones on or near music Row. Go in and introduce yourself and ask if they use 'freelance studio musicians'. If so, leave your tapes. If they don't, leave your tapes anyway.

Next, start setting up your week to perform at the opem mic nights at the Bluebird or over near the Exit In (depending on the type of crowd you want). Check out the listings in the Nashville Scene where each of the clubs lists their open mic nights. Usually you have to show up about 6 pm to get on the list. Then hang around all night waiting for your spot.

Perform for the crowd, not for the shirts which may or may not be in the crowd. The more you entertain, the more the clubs will want you back, and the more your 'performance' will get around town.

Lastly, keep your name at the agent's desks too. Drop off tapes and call them from time to time to say Hello. (No, not once a week, maybe once a month.) Find out when the agent's birthday is, or his anniversary. Call and wish them Happy Birthday. Gets your name in front of them.

Keep your eye on the papers. They always list the producers who move up in a company. Send them a card of contratulations when one of them is promoted. This also keeps your name in front of them.
