In reference to clothing, it's the white tank tops that guys wear.

Plain white, often ribbed, tanks that got their name because of stereotyping and movies. In most movies the guy comes out of his recliner with a beer can in his hand to yell at the abused wife. Then he hits her, cusses her, etc...

No seriously a wifebeater is a white undershirt that only looks good on about a quarter of the people who wear them.

A wifebeater is a tank top, or a shirt with no sleaves. It's cool to wear and fashionable, too.

The other posters are correct, it's a men's sleeveless undershirt. It's called a wifebeater because you usually see the guys getting arrested on "Cops" wearing one (when they wear a shirt at all...)

a wifebeater is just something that guys wear its like a white tank top or whatever i have no clue why they're called that.

well, it is a man who beats his wife = wifebeater.
J.K. you may know them also as ribbed tanks, but basically they are tank tops that a lot of skaters wear. go to your local target and ask some one there what a wifebeater tank top is. they are sure to help you(and if not, have them fired!)

It's that sleeveless undershirt which was very popular prior to the 70's....Tony on The Sopranos wears one....and I'm sure if you take a walk down any busy street you'll see one. They're now considered acceptable outer wear.

In the store you find them in the packages that say A-shirt meaning no sleeves. A T-shirt has sleeves. The shirt resemble the letters of their styles.
