Try typing what you remember into a search engine. You might want to add the word "book" to the end of the search - or try Amazon or BN.com to limit your search to books.
If all else fails, call on a librarian. Finding the answers to questions like yours is why they get paid the big bucks.

You can search the web or a library catalog (I suggest Worldcat database if you've got access) by keyword, subject, or title phrase. If you know that there are certain words in the title...even if it's not complete you can often find it. It's if you don't have any words in the title to go by or any inclination as to the author's name where it becomes more tricky. Tricky but not impossible.
Amazon can work sometimes as well. Google is useful too. But booksinprint.com or worldcat databases might provide the best tools to do the job.

Let see- you don't know the title of the book, and obviously don't know who the author is... so I'd say your chances are pretty slim. If you'd use your head, and perhaps ask a question like, "What was the name of the book where "X" did "Y", and then "Z" happened...?", someone could help you.

My local library has a search engine that allows you to type in a partial title...you could probably narrow down the author from there based on the subject.

Search on Amazon. Limit your searches to books only, you'll find what you're looking for.
