the main reason that i asked is that there must have been more than coincidental because if they are airing commercials there has to be alot of people with the same case. thanks for the nice comments.

Just because you are in Canada should not stop you from bringing a suit in the US. In the US, typically, a lawsuit is brought in the jurisdiction where the DEFENDANT (In this case, Prozac) does business. Some can be brought where the action took place. You may also have a suit against her doctor, but I don't know anything about jurisprudence in Canada. Talk to a lawyer where you live.

I found a number of websites on line regarding lawsuits against Eli Lily, the makers of Prozac. I personally know someone who collected a large settlement after his mother, evidently under the influence of Prozac, killed herself and several members of her family. Very tragic. I am sorry for your loss, as well. Do some research, but do it quickly. You may have missed the statute of limitations.

Sorry for your loss.

I can't say whether prozac raises the risk of suicide, and there's no way for me to say it caused your mother's suicide. Proving causation in cases like these is extremely difficult. That doesn't mean there's no case, but you would have a tough road in showing liability. Also, if the psychiatrist treating your mom should have warned her and didn't, or should have taken her off the drug due to side effects and didn't, the manufacturer would have another defense available, other than the pure difficulty of proving causation.

Sorry about your Mom.

Why? Do you think the Prozac caused your Mom to commit suicide or was the fact she was taking Prozac just a coincidence?

The fact that people's initial reaction is to sue is part of the reason that drugs are so expensive and take so long to be approved.

First I'm sorry for your lost. You know Prozac has helped a lot of people but it don't work for everyone, Like myself years ago I was also on it and it changed my whole way of thinking till I asked the Dr to take me off of it and he said no so I did what no one should do I took myself off of it slowly. To answer your question I talk to a lawyer, it can't hurt and besides he would know what your chances are of winning something like that... I hope things get better for you...

I do not believe that Prozac caused your mom's suicide. I am very sorry for your loss, but depression is what causes suicide. Anti-depressants help thousands and thousands of people, and they definitely prevent suicides. I feel horrible that your mom did not find something that worked for her, but it's not fair to blame it on Prozac.

What you saw was probalby a solicitation for a class action lawsuit. You would have to contact the lawyers who ran the ad to see if you qualify as a party.
