What I try to do is something that cheers me up, one of my hobbies or interests. For me that is usually either playing some games on my computer, reading, working crossword puzzles or listening to my favorite music. If that doesn't work for you, try staring a journal and writing down all your thoughts and feeling everyday, even your random thoughts. I do that and it always helps me.

I hold my cat and watch her sleep soundly. I let my feelings out when no one is around. I go for a long walk on the beach and think of everything that is wrong with my life....then I start to count all the things that are right, ie, I can walk, breathe, im healthy, I can see, speak, wear what I want....I am free to feel how I want.
Not every one is so lucky.

i have had depression/anxiety for 6 years of my life. some days it can be very trying for me, i will have trouble just getting out of bed in the morning! however, with medication and a little push i can keep things balanced in my life. i do lot's of hobbies, talk to my friends on the internet, take care of my husband and son, and recently adopted a dog. i also try and go outside as much as i can--there is nothing like a little sunshine and fresh air to lift your mood.
good luck.

Video tape yourself and watch it with some friends
you will see first hand how you act and your friends will comment and help you with some suggestions
the reason you need friends to watch with you is because you can not do it alone you need support

Stay busy; Create balance in your life. Time to work and progress and then time to 'play.'
The more you do this, the better person you become for yourself, and quite possibly for a love interest later on.

i have never been seriously depressed before, but i find that going out and doing something you like [going to Barnes & Noble, going to a coffeeshop with friends...] can help.
