Well i am very sure it is the dropping of the atomic bomb on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I can't imagine anything else is scarier that that. The immediate and long-term effect of that incident is truely horrifying.

There were a few events that took place that were absolutely disturbing. If I had to choose one event, I would have to say the white man's treatment of the native American Indians. We, as WHITE Americans, should be ashamed of what happened to these people. They were taken advantage of, manipulated, disgraced, and almost wiped out. The Europeans claimed this land as there own and the demise of a people began. It was a sign of things to come.
For example: Aren't we in the Middle East basically taking over Iraq? Is it still necessary for us to be there? Doesn't the American military have bases on EVERY populated continent? It seems history does repeat itself. Furthermore, America is a young country (230 yrs. old). It will not be the most powerful country on the planet forever. I am a white American and I am proud of it. But at what cost did my freedom and address come?

The Holocaust of World War 2 to think that one race of human being is better than another and then they are prepared to kill off that race of beings because they feel are inferior is just mind boggling. Considering that the Germans on a whole were thought of a civilize people who brought a lot into our human culture such music and science so world can be a better place to live in and then they turn around and were prepared to kill off millions of other people just on the words of some crazy lunatic that they thought of as a G-d. Is something to make a person just wonder why human being do the things they do in order to destory the world they live in.

Would have to be a toss-up between the A-bombs of WW II or The Cuban Missle Crisis.

Although the Black Death does come in a very close second.

'Wars' is a bit too general an answer.

The Cuban Missile Crisis comes to mind. We were on the brink of all out nuclear war with the Soviet Union. There is nothing scarier than knowing your "enemy" has nuclear missiles only 90 miles from your country and just might be willing to use them. I was in high school when it happened and everybody was scared.

The French revolution's always been, not scary, per se, but very intriguing to me. The common people rose against nobility and the social system, and once they were in control, they became worse and more immoral than the ruling class they unseated. Perfect example of the flaws of human nature.

Cholera Epidemic early 1800's. People were being buried alive.

The scariest is the one yet to come. Because some don't learn from history and some let history control too much of their present, past and future.

The release of most American Movies. I can't believe people go to watch this crap.

The Black Plague. And since we still have no cure for it, it is very likely to happen again during our lifetime. Or germ warfare will get out of hand and that will be it for not only the innocent but the guilty too.

Some of the mega-volcanic eruptions which have covered as much as 1/3 of the US in hot ash, and could perhaps have even caused climate change which killed the dinosaurs.

It could always happen again.
