The Philippines would be a very rich country if it was not for the theiving corrupt government and the corrupt rich people in Philippines. There is a lot of very expensive resources in the Philippines including copper, diamonds, chromium, cement and oil. The corrupt bring in countries like china to reap those resources and take a cut of the profits, the ordinary people get nothing. The N.P.A or New Peoples Army have been fighting this corruption for years only to be put on an International Terrorism list by America. These corrupt government officials told America that they could come in to the country to clear Al Quaida terrorists like the Abu Sayaff as long as America agreed to get rid of the N.P.A as well, America agreed. What you might not know is that one of the most corrupt rich Filipinos owns the controlling interests in San Miguel and a huge chunk of Coca Cola shares all earned through corruption.

Philippines is indeed poor in economic terms but surely it is one of the happiest nation around the world.

One reason is lack of nationalism. Filipinos are known to be talented and their intelligence is not far as compared to the people of the first world countries. But these bright and talented individuals preffers to work abroad due to financial reasons. They help other nations to improve their technologies but they ignore their own.

Philippines has a lot of natural resources but I don't know exactly what is happening with those wealth.

Another factor affecting the economic stability of the country is politics. Philippines has one nuclear facility in the north but it was never put into operation perhaps because of too much politics. Politicians use some of industrial issues to make them popular, to make their names heard. How come a lawyer can judge that a nuclear facility is dangerous? He only know about laws. How deep is their knowledge in nuclear reaction? The only advantage they had is there power of manipulating the rules because they know the laws which they could break. Untill know this nuclear facility is a burden of the Philippine government which is supposed to be a source of energy. Most of the politicians are only thinking for their own interest.

The real thing is, Philippines' GNP is less than other Asian nation but if you would scrutinize the living condition of each family, you might be surprised that although most of them are living below the poverty line, they could still manage to smile at you.

When it comes to natural resources Philippines has a lot of them, but when it come to economic stability then Philippines is on a poor level. Its sad to say that the reason for this is that many politicians are so corrupt even those that are in the barangays system, but of course the people in general are also the one to blame for voting these so called public servants, and most people are always scared of changes in the government most of the people are so unsupportive of the programs of the current president elect without giving the programs a try.

Corruption. It killed the country's competitiveness. Government's inability to provide basic infrastructure drive investors further away. It makes the country poor. But the standard of education is high. Literacy rate is the highest among ASEAN countries. That's why there're about 10% of the population are now working and earning income abroad. But that leads to another problem. Brain drain. With the best heads and labors are giving out ideas and help other countries develop, they didnt contribute much to the future of your country apart from billions of remittance which is the 3rd highest in the world. We should do something and my suggestion is to bring back our OFW to help develop Philippines. It's sad because while millions are away from home working their sleeves up all the politicians back home do is encourage people to go abroad instead of staying. We need to look for the future.

Poor in what ways? I would say Filipinos maybe poor financially but they are very rich in family values and in my opinion that is something that I would rather have than all the money in the world.

geological location. notice the animals-the size of fishes, fruits, vegetables. trees i've been in america, trees are tall, fishes are huge, fruits and vegetables are very rich in size and colors and variations.
i think these things are basic characteristic of a country, its natural resources, when people eat these small sized natural resources people will tend to be also small. and being small is a sign of poor in resources
