Your child may have 2 or more of these symptoms:

Cold symptoms – keep in mind that ear infections are almost always preceded by a cold. Often a clear runny nose will turn yellow or green before an ear infection sets in.
Fussiness during the day or night
Night-waking more frequently
Unwillingness to lie flat
Fever – usually low grade (101º - 102º); may not have a fever.
Sudden increase in fussiness during a cold
Ear drainage – if you see blood or pus draining out of the ear, then it is probably an infection with a ruptured eardrum. DON'T WORRY! These almost always heal just fine, and once the eardrum ruptures the pain subsides.

If your baby is younger then a year old don't go by if he/she if pulling at their ear.

If your baby is crying or keep pulling at any of the ears on either side of his or her head. The ear should be red around the outside of the ear if they find it irritating them. I would then take the baby to see your local doctor to get it checked out incase see needs an antibotic to clean up the ear infection.

The only way I know if my child has an ear infection is by the pulling of the ears and the constant crying. Check with your pediatrician to make sure.

well, I am the queen of mothering children with ear infections....my first son got a fever and screamed. My second only whined a bit but pulled on his ear. Usually the only true sign I got consistently every time they got infected was a green thick runny nose.

Tugging at the ear, fever, off balance. Sometimes ear infections are mistaken for teething pain....We do that alot, the doctor says the child feels it in his ear when he teeths. Boys are more prone to infections than girls....see a doctor

Well yoy can go to the doctor and see what he/she says or the baby might be touching its ear a lot and that might be because it has an ear infection.

My baby cries, runs a fever and throws up when he has an ear infection. I have been told that if you pull on their ears they will cry if they have one. Also some babies pull their ears.

The baby will fret and bat at his ear with his little fists. He will want to be held in an upright position in your arms because it hurts worse when the baby is lying in bed. He may or may not have a fever. His eyes could be watery and the mucus in his nose could be dark yellow or nasty green. Poor baby!

My son had a lot when he was a baby. He would run a fever, cried, tugged at his ear. It you baby is an infant, I'd take him/her to a doctor and have his ears checked if I was worried.
