Hell no! A7X is good old fashioned thrash/speed metal!!! Their first 2 albums were more metalcore, but the new album is straight up METAL. The solos and riffs are out of this world.

The band even stated that they were trying to escape the metalcore label with the new album:

Yeah, I know they were on the Warped Tour, which mainly consists of punk/punk-pop bands, but so was Bullet for My Valentine and Bleeding Through. In my opinion, Bullet for My Valentine is straight up metal also, and Bleeding Through is punk influenced metal (hardcore). So, just like any other tour, they throw a few bands in the mix that are slightly "different" than the typical bands on the tour to attract a wider audience. Hell, the Family Values Tour has had Method Man and Redman on it before (LOL).

Look at that mixture of bands/genres

So, NO, A7X is not punk!!!

Not at all.

"A form of hard-driving rock 'n' roll originating in the 1970s, characterized by harsh lyrics attacking conventional society and popular culture, and often expressing alienation and anger. Rock music with deliberately offensive lyrics expressing anger and social alienation; in part a reaction against progressive rock. (there are other definitions of this on this site way better than this one) This is what started the whole thing. But punk rock goes AGAINST stereotyping, (that would be the conventional society and popular culture) and calling oneself “punk” is just that." --urbandictionary

Plus, wikipedia calls A7X "heavy metal/hard core." Their sound is not punk rock in the least.

As Alexander McQueen said, "Punk was born out of anarchy at a time of strife."

To me, Avenged Sevenfold cannot even compare to the great bands of the 70's. That's real punk, rebelling, using music and angry lyrics to try and change something; Avenged Sevenfold? I don't think so.
