I have contracted a virus (C:WINDOWS\S\system.32\ld100.temp win32/Beovenslogeneric). In asking the question of how to get rid of this, It was suggested that I download Norton or Macafee at some cost to me or download free "foxfire" software to rid this from my computer. Can I not get a download from SBC or do I have to go third party?

There is also a "free" version of Norton 2005 that you can get through google pack. pack.google.com

It's is a 6 month version I believe, and then from there you'll have to renew through purchase as usual.

My recommendation though on AV software is Kaspersky, it's a little more expensive than the popular brands, but it also catches more virus's than the popular brands. http://www.kaspersky.com

Go with the Free Virusscanner AVG Free Edtion that you can find at download.com. That is will clean the virus.

If you want to contact SBC after that about virus programs, you can. But I would not wait to remove the current virus.

And if they give you another cleaner, remove AVG. Never run two virus scanners at the same time. They will fight each other.
