I'm a beginner, I don't understand all the chrocheting words.I'm chrocheting a blanket with Granny squares and I'm out of yarn ,so I need to combine my other yarn to this one and I don't know how to.I couldn't find a website with a video to watch can anyone help me? Also if I wanted to switch to a different color would I do the same thing? Thank You!

I prefer to start joining new colors by making a slipknot and pulling that loop up into the next stitch you're about to start.

A slip knot is the first thing you learn to make when crocheting; it would be a real knot if you pulled the longer end all the way out of the loop. It is a "slip knot" becomes it can slip out easily and completely without a knot.

The easiest way for me to add yarn when crocheting is to either tie the two ends together, or hold the two ends together and continue on with your crocheting.

Yes, you would do the same thing to change colors.
